Kite & Ski Touring Weekend

At Tyin-Filefjell, we wanted to combine our two most spectacular activities on the same weekend. The area is known to have some of the best kite skiing and ski touring spots in the entire country - so why not combine the two? We welcome you to an unforgettable weekend where you will be able to fulfill both your kiting and ski touring needs.

Suggested schedule:

Friday: Meet up at the Filefjellstuene Lodge at 8:00 p.m. to hear about the weekend that lies ahead. We will also go through each of your equipment for ski touring the following day, Saturday. We have all the safety equipment such as a transceivers, probes and shovels if you need it. We also offer rentals of all the latest ski touring gear at our ski shop Tyin Sport. Telemark skis can work for touring as well. Please let us know if you need to rent any gear ahead of time.

Saturday: Meet up outside of the Filefjellstuene Lodge at 8:00 a.m. We will start our tour with headlamps & our ski touring gear and start the ascent up to Skørsnøse, 1454 m. During this tour, we will go through how to use a transceiver, make a route selection, and assess the snow conditions and learn other relevant security measures.

Once we have reached the summit, we will reap the rewards of powder turns back down to the Filefjellstuene Lodge to enjoy a delicious mountain lunch.

At 1:00 p.m. we head out for a second trip!

The afternoon adventure will be a ski tour through the woods to the Ylja power station. The route ascends for a while before you will get some steep, off-piste turns in heading down to Yjla. From there we will be picked up in a bus and transported back to the Filefjelllstuene Lodge.

From about 4 p.m. onwards sit back, relax and enjoy après ski at our fully equipped bar, the Skistøga in the basement of the Filefjellstuene Lodge.

Sunday: Meet outside the Filefjellstuene Lodge at 9:30 a.m. to get fitted with your kite skiing gear. Once we are ready, we will head straight to the best kiting spot of the day to start the kiting course. The kite skiing course lasts about 3 hours, providing all the basics you need to learn for conquering the sport of kiting!
