Sognefjellet mountain road

Norway's highest mountain pass, offering breathtaking mountain and fjord views.

ABOUT SCENIC ROUTE SOGNEFJELLET

The 108 km long Norwegian Scenic Route Sognefjellet leads from Lom's rich cultural landscape across Norway's highest mountain pass to Gaupne in the heart of Sognefjorden.

Known as the gateway to Jotunheimen, this historic path starts in the lush meadows of Bøverdalen, where you can catch a glimpse of majestic mountains in the distance. The road ascends gradually through the valley, reaching 1,434 meters above sea level, making it the highest mountain pass in Northern Europe.

Descending toward Sognefjorden, the landscape grows wilder. Near Gaupne, the road winds along the stunning Sognefjorden, where the water shifts from green to blue, reflecting the changing light and weather.
