Big mountain lodge located by lake Gjende just under the famous Besseggen ridge.
DNT cabin placed on the western side of lake Gjende, Gjendesheim was established in 1878. At 1000 m.a.s.l., southeast of the Galdhøpingen, with Besseggen ridge as a neighbor, the cabin is the most visited lodge north of the Alps; particularly popular among families with small children during Easter and summer, it offers multiple activities for the outdoor enthusiasts, among which the famous Besseggen trail - available in summer as in winter – but as well randonné courses, rafting, yoga and trail cycling! Photographers and admirers of natural landscapes will find inspiration and a good source for their hobby, with high peaks plunging into deep blue waters; and what about taking a shot of lake Bandet? It is said to be the clearest lake in Norway, allowing passersby to plunge their eyes at a depth of 30 metres! Dramatic contrasts, pure, fresh air, and trails to test your physical form. Who would like to miss that? P.s. you can get the best view just right before the last part of the ridge, anyone interested?
The cabin runs with solar cell power, adhere to a strict ecological code – no water plastic bottles can be found here - is accessible to wheelchair users at 1st floor, and even provides rental service for sport equipment and basic layers of high quality!
