Glitterheim Turisthytte

Glitterheim lies at the foot of the second highest mountain of Norway Glittertid.

Northeast of Jotunheim 1400 m.a.s.l., almost in direct line with Galdhøpingen, Glitterheim is a mountain lodge built in 1880 and particularly apt for those who look for demanding hikes: Ryggjehøe (2142 moh), Glitterrundhøe (2089 moh) and Glittertind (2465 moh) give the chance to hikers for day- or multi-day tours on peaks over 2000 m.s.l. Not a huge fan of heights and more of a relaxed nature-lover? No fears! At Glitterheim there is as well the possibility to use a canoe in the calm environment of the rivers close to the cabin, or to rent a bicycle to enjoy the surrounding areas. Alternatively, guests can enjoy the view of the peaks whilst attempting their luck with fishing at the lake Steinbuvatnet, just at a 20-minutes walking distance. For young visitors, we recommend the nature ladder around Glitterheim, where visitors can learn more about plants, animals and enjoy fresh berries! And beware foodies! The lodge can boast as well, the presence of its own smoking house, and its own stabbur - a typical Norwegian granary elevated from the ground - therefore it is able to offer its guests homemade bread and bakery products, as well as cured mats produced in the fresh air of the mountain
