Galdhøpiggen via Svellnosbreen

Trip to the highest mountain of Norway from Spiterstulen across Svellnosbreen glacier.

This is a longer, but much more exciting route to the summit of Galdhøpiggen, 2469 meters above sea level. The route includes a spectacular glacier crossing and steep, but easy scrambling up the south face of Galdhøpiggen. We follow the normal route down to Spiterstulen. It is a demanding trip suited for fit youths and adults.

The route to Galdhøpiggen, Norway’s tallest mountain at 2,469 meters, via the Svellnosbreen Glacier, offers an unforgettable mix of mountaineering and glacial trekking. Here, climbers usually rope up with a guide for safety, as the Svellnosbreen Glacier is riddled with crevasses and steep ice sections that require caution and skill to navigate. This stretch provides a thrilling experience with views of ice formations and deep-blue crevasses.

After crossing the glacier, the path to Galdhøpiggen’s summit ascends rocky slopes and snowfields. Upon reaching the peak, climbers are rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, a breathtaking sight that makes the journey well worth the effort.

Due to its technical nature, this route is recommended for experienced hikers, and going with a trained guide is essential. Proper gear, including crampons, ropes, and warm clothing, is required for the glacier crossing.
