Besseggen is a breathtaking hiking ridge, a mountain top and also also one of the Norway's most famous and scenic hiking trails, located in Jotunheimen National Park between the lakes Gjende and Bessvatnet.

Stretching 14 kilometers (8.7 miles), it offers a thrilling adventure along steep paths, with unparalleled views of the emerald-green Gjende Lake on one side and the deep blue Bessvatnet Lake on the other. The trail connects Memurubu Lodge and Gjendesheim Lodge, with an elevation gain of 1,200 meters (3,937 feet). Known for its rugged terrain, it is one of Norway's most famous hikes, drawing over 50,000 hikers annually.

Curiosities:

"Backward Hike": While most hike from Memurubu to Gjendesheim (aided by a ferry), some adventurous souls hike the opposite direction, tackling the steepest ascent first.
Spectacular Wildlife: The area is home to reindeer, wolverines, and golden eagles. Lucky hikers might spot one!
Record Time: While most hikers take 6–8 hours, elite athletes have completed the trail in under 2 hours during organized races.
Cultural Significance: Local Sami legends say the lakes are guarded by spirits, and the hike symbolizes the boundary between worlds.
Winter Drama: Though primarily a summer hike, Besseggen transforms into a dangerous snowy ridge in winter, reserved only for the most experienced mountaineers.
