Mjølkevegen: Detours with Birgit (4-days)

Together with Birgit Haugen, the author of the popular book Mjølkevegen med avstikkere (translation: The Old Milk Route with detours) we offer guided cycling tours of some of her favourite routes. Join Birgit on a cycling adventure over a long weekend where you can discover some of her favourite hidden gems!

Author and cycling enthusiast Birgit Haugen has selected a few of her favourite cycling routes that diverge from the main Mjølkevegen route. These curated cycling tours of the Norwegian landscape, carefully selected and guided by Birgit herself, will give you a unique experience exploring the region around Mjølkevegen with a knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guide.

The 4-day tour with Birgit uses Kamben Mountain Lodge on Golsfjellet mountain as the base from which you will explore the local area from the comfort of your bike seat. At the cozy Kamben Mountain Lodge, you’ll enjoy an idyllic, rustic overnight experience in the style of a traditional Norwegian farmhouse - but with recently renovated, beautifully decorated rooms.

Over the course of the long weekend, Birgit will guide you on tours of some of the best cycling roads around Mjølkevegen – her personal favourites. The tour will provide the basis for a scenic, adventure-filled weekend with plenty of experiences in one of Norway’s most beautiful regions.

One of the wonderful things about Mjølkevegen is that there are so many adventures and experiences just waiting to be enjoyed along the trails and close to Kamben Mountain Lodge. Aside from Birgit’s carefully selected bike tours in the area, there are also many other beautiful hikes and cycling trails you can enjoy, as well as swimming or fishing in the area’s lakes and creeks.

The 4-day trip Mjølkevegen: Detours with Birgit starts with a bus transfer from Oslo, where you’ll be riding with the modern and comfortable Valdresekspressen. It’s a scenic 4-hour journey that’ll take you from the hustle and bustle of the capital to countryside roads surrounded by blue lakes and vast fields.

In this package you will cycle the round-tour to Tisleidalen. The trail is listed as route 1 in Birgit's book Mjølkevegen med avstikkere, and is a popular scenic cycling route. It’s a somewhat challenging route with some hills. Your experienced guide will lead you along the beautiful Norwegian countryside, where you’ll pass by rivers and lakes and take in the rural landscape around you.

The next day, Birgit will guide you on a route along Revulen and Panoramavegen. This cycling trip is listed as route 9 in her book, and is moderately difficult. Revulen is off the beaten track, meaning you’ll get to experience an exciting trail that’s one of Birgit’s favourite hidden gems. The route also takes you through the beautiful Panoramavegen with its gorgeous panoramic views that inspired the name of the road.

You will also get the chance to take on a round-trip to Einarset, which is listed as route 3 in Mjølkevegen med avstikkere.  It’s a short, simple cycling route following small trails and mountain roads. On this shorter trip, you’ll be able to take your time, cycle slowly and take in the scenery and nature around you.
