– enjoy a unique culinary festival in Fagernes!

Ever tried a Norwegian fish dish made from trout or char, salted and fermented for several months or even a year? The fish is then eaten raw, often accompanied with soft Norwegian flatbread or with different side dishes. This tradition dates back to the old times, when the only way to conserve fish for the cold, hard winters was to soak it salt and water in airtight barrels.

Known as Norway’s “smelliest” fish, Rakfisk is today considered a unique delicacy, which can also be enjoyed with some quality Norwegian Aquavit! Rakfiskefestivalen in Fagernes has been running since 1993, and is one of the biggest events in Valdres with around 30-40 000 visitors during the 3 days. Come to Fagernes and enjoy an exciting weekend packed with culinary and artistic experiences and musical contributions; in 2019 we will welcome famous national and local artists such as Madcon, Staut and Julie Bergan. See you there!
